From May 31Lufthansa introduces its Airbus A380-800 on the Munich-Washington, D.C. route, marking a first for the U.S. capital. Until now, this route was served by an Airbus A340-600, but growing demand and the efficiency of the air giant have motivated this strategic change.
A New Strategic Route for Lufthansa
Washington D.C. thus becomes the fifth destination operated by Lufthansa A380s. At present, other routes include Boston, Los Angeles, New Yorkand Delhi. This expansion reflects not only the increased demand for transatlantic flights, but also the company's ongoing commitment to offering unrivalled capacity and comfort.
Operation details
As the base airport for Lufthansa's A380s, Munich will see its eight Airbus A380-800s (five of which are currently operational) fly this daily route. The seventh weekly flight to Washington will bring total operations to 35 weekly flightsand maintained throughout the summer.
The current line-up of these aircraft includes :
- LH 424 Munich to Boston daily
- LH 762 Munich to Delhi daily
- LH 452 from Munich to Los Angeles daily
- LH 410 from Munich to New York (JFK) daily
Configuration and Onboard Services
Lufthansa's Airbus A380 is equipped with a 509-seat configurationdivided into four classes: 8 in First Class, 78 in Business Class, 52 in Premium Economy and 371 in Economy Class. This diversified offer guarantees optimum comfort for all passengers, regardless of the class selected.
Year-end outlook
The A380's last rotation to Washington is scheduled for September 30. From October onwards, the Airbus A350-900configured for 293 seatswill take over, continuing to operate this route with greener, more economical aircraft that meet constantly evolving environmental standards.
In addition, United Airlines maintains a daily frequency on this route with a Boeing 767-300(ER), offering additional capacity for 214 seats divided into two classes.
Finally, Lufthansa plans to continue meeting the growing needs of passengers on this busy route, while continually integrating new-generation technologies and aircraft to enhance the overall passenger experience.
